Children are not just miniature, cute adults. They are developing people with a set of needs that are different than those of "grown-ups".

To treat a child properly, it is most important to look at the situation from the child's point of view. A dental visit can be scary for a young one due to fear of the unknown, stories told by friends and family, or just that fact that our young patient will be in a situation where the control belongs to someone else. You do not get respect from a child without giving that child respect first. Therefore, your child will be given the appropriate respect and we will expect it in return.

Be assured that we are well trained in how to treat children. There are two phases to successfully treating a child...the actual dentistry and the environment in which it's performed.

The dentistry itself must be up to date. We pride ourselves on being able to offer the latest treatment options for our young patients. Minimally invasive treatments, sealants (see separate link under pediatric care) gentle anesthesia are all part of a comprehensive method of treating childhood dental problems. We will clean their teeth and administer fluoride treatments when indicated to help keep their mouths healthy.

The environment in which we are performing our procedures must be friendly and non-threatening. Be assured that our caring staff will keep such an environment for our little ones. Their visit will be as stress free as possible, as we all believe that what we do is only half the treatment...how we do it is just as important.

We emphasize prevention, and will start our young ones early with oral hygiene instruction. We will give them toothbrushes and teach them how to use them. We might use fluoride rinses or other products to make their hygiene most effective.

Remember, with our young patients, we are making decisions for them that they must live with for the rest of their lives. We make sure, with parent/guardian cooperation that we all make the correct decisions.
